SAN FRANCISCO/LOS ANGELES — Tomic’s final bout for the UFC will be his only main event.
The featherweight who won his UFC debut against Jose Aldo is fighting out of T-Mobile Arena in San Francisco on Thursday to retain his featherweight title, which he won back in December 2012 after an injury forced him to withdraw from the title fight against Chad Mendes with the UFC.
Tomic (18-2 MMA, 6-2 UFC) announced the news on Facebook.
“After six months of grueling training I was ready to go to fight again,” Tomic said. “But when (UFC president Dana White) told me he wouldn’t be able to come in for my fight due to what I did to his head, I had to rethink my next move and go with what I think is right for me to keep my title.
“After all the setbacks, mistakes and injuries in my career, I’m truly in the best shape of my life and now I can onlyjarvees.com worry about competing for my title.”
Tomic, who is training for the UFC title fight against더킹카지노 champion Michael Bisping on Dec. 16 at Los Angeles’ Staples Center, was stripped of his belt in May 2014 when Aldo tore his tricep muscle, ending his pro career. The Brazilian made his featherweight debut on Feb. 28, 2010, at the T-Mobile Arena, losing in the first round to John Howard.
The 23-year-old has won six straight, including the UFC bantamweight title against Frankie Edgar this past October. He became the fifth fighter in UFC history to earn the championship with four consecutive wins at the cage.
