Coast qualifies for federal tourism grants as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. The program is administered by the U.S. Coast Guard.

Hudson Valley has been ranked in the top two counties in the country for tourism spending, according to a 2015 study by Destination New York.

The number of visitors visiting the region, including those who arrive with families or tourists, has increased significantly in recent years.

Last year alone, 8,095 businessjarvees.com travelers visited Hudson Valley, compared wijarvees.comth 5,984 visitors in 2014. In June of last year, 3,541 business travelers visited Hudson Valley, compared with 4,094 in 2013.

But not everyone is happy with the region’s treatment of tourism.

The Tourism Commission of New York has issued its annual report on the economic condition of the Hudson Valley and Hudson County over the past several years. It found that, as of May, 2017, the region still lags behind in attracting top dollar visitors, and that Hudson Valley continues to be one of the area’s worst destinations for those with low incomes.

“There’s always going to be that one or two out there that will come and come here,” said Brian Smith, president of the Economic Development Association of New York. “But how many are those that actually understand the needs of their community and do some of the job creation and economic development and public safety needs of that community or neighborhood? So we can always have those conversations but what we can’t do is ignore them.”

While business owners in the region have voiced frustration with the federal government over the treatment of tourism in the region, many state and local legislators have also voiced some frustration with how some residents of the region were treated.

For example, the Hudson Valley Chamber of Commerce said that over the past year, the county has refused numerous requests from legislators to add more parkland, which they say would have added additional jobs for residents.

The Chamber, based in Upper Marlborough, also said that despite recent progress in implementing a bill legalizing marijuana, state officials failed to acknowledge the positive impact the recreational use of marijuana would have.
